One of the roles of the human resource department is to design and implement performance appraisals and for this purpose, the HR dept. acts as a mediator between the employees and the senior functional management of the organization. It is the responsibility of the HR dept. to make sure that the appraisal process is implemented smoothly and successfully.

The very basic responsibility of the HR dept. is to design the complete appraisal process and make sure that it is simple and does not take a lot of time to implement. For this purpose, the HR departmental team needs to know the roles and responsibilities of each employee so that they are able to create and design a system that rates the responsibilities of the employees with respect to their overall achievements.

Apart from this, the HR departmental team has the role of sitting down with the departmental heads and/or the reviewing authorities to make sure that the appraisals are conducted on time and only those who are deserving of the benefits get them. By this, we mean that the appraisals should be conducted for those who have worked really hard throughout the year and deserve to be complimented on their hard work. Once the appraisal has been completed, it is the responsibility of the HR team to hand over all reports to the employee concerned and not to anyone else.

The HR team has the role of making sure that employees are satisfied with their job appraisals and the HR team has the role of arranging meetings with employees to discuss the outcome of the appraisals as soon as they are completed as many employees start looking for a new job as soon as the appraisal process ends.
